Another magnitude 6 earthquake jolts Bogo City in Cebu
A new magnitude 6.0 earthquake struck near Bogo City at 1:06 a.m., adding to the disaster recovery efforts in the city, which was severely damaged by a magnitude 6.9 quake on Sept. 30.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology measured the depth at 10 kilometers. The shaking was felt as strong as Intensity 5 in Villaba, Leyte, and registered at Intensity 4 in the cities of Cebu, Danao, Argao, and Talisay, and the town of Asturias, all in Cebu; in the towns of Isabel, Leyte, Hilongos and Abuyog and Ormoc City in Leyte province; and in Hinunangan, Southern Leyte.
Phivolcs said damage and aftershocks were to be expected.
Last, Sept. 30, at 9:59 p.m., a quake jolted the area with an epicenter 19 kilometers off Bogo City.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council reported that 74 people are confirmed dead and 559 are injured. The quake also severely damaged 71,996 homes and 706 structures.
