Filipina nurse killed in road accident in California
A Filipina nurse has died after being hit by a car outside a medical center in California.
According to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, the victim hit her head after being struck by a car that was pulling into Sacramento VA Medical Center's emergency room parking lot last weekend.
She was rushed to the center's emergency room before transferring to UC Davis Medical Center, where she was declared dead.
The UC Davis Health Department identified the nurse as their staff Novyrose Mejia in a statement sent to FOX40.
“UC Davis Health grieves the loss of Novyrose Mejia, a cherished nurse known for her dedication to patients and her family. “Her hospital colleagues describe her as hardworking and compassionate—a devoted advocate for those in her care,” the statement read.
A GoFundMe page has been set up by her family to cover medical expenses and funeral costs.
Mejia was a “wife, mother, sister, and dedicated nurse at UC Davis and the Sacramento VA,” the family's statement posted on the page read.
“Novy lived a life rooted in faith, compassion, and service. As a devoted Catholic and a selfless nurse, she spent her life caring for others — comforting the sick, advocating for her patients, and answering God’s call to serve with humility and grace. She gave endlessly of herself, often putting others before her own needs,” it continued.
She is survived by her husband Virgilio and her two sons.
