Pinoy newlyweds die after paddleboarding accident in Canada
A newlywed couple from the Philippines was found lifeless on a lake in Canada following a paddleboarding accident.
According to a news release by the Squamish Royal Canadian Mounted Police, the two "were reported to have fallen from their paddleboard" on Browning Lake in the afternoon of May 30.
"Squamish RCMP received a report that two paddleboarders on Browning Lake, within Murrin Provincial Park, had entered the water and did not resurface," authorities said, adding that a "coordinated search effort was immediately initiated."
Squamish Search and Rescue, the BC Conservation Officer Service, Squamish Fire Rescue, BC Emergency Health Services, and RCMP Air One all helped in locating the paddleboarders.
Their bodies were recovered on Tuesday, June 2.
CBC News, known as Canada's national public news and information service, reported that the victims were identified by their families as Filipinos Genesis Jeru Bague and Mariz Bello.
Bague's brother Genesis Hanzel previously said the victim had hopes of becoming a police officer in British Columbia one day.
He added that the newlyweds "enjoyed being outdoors, hiking and camping—and that he was sharing their story so that their friends and family could learn their deaths came due to an accident," according to the media outlet.
