Theatre Group Asia to bring three global hits for its 2026-2027 season
Theatre Group Asia has released its "boldest" lineup yet for its 2026-2027 season, and it is a powerhouse trio of productions that have never before graced a Filipino stage.
According to TGA Creative and Overall Artistic Director Clint Ramos, this season is built on the theme of human influence.
"This season places the human capacity to influence through love, survival, and creation on center stage. While each production proudly spotlights artists and narratives, the season ultimately celebrates something even greater: the power every person holds to shape hearts, defy limits, and leave a lasting mark," he said.
This September will be the highly anticipated international premiere of The Notebook: The Musical. The stage adaptation of Nicholas Sparks' best-selling novel features a score by Ingrid Michaelson and a script by Bekah Brunstetter. It will portray Allie and Noah across three different stages of their lives, showing "how love matures, fractures, and ultimately endures."
In February 2027, Federico García Lorca’s final masterpiece, Ang Tahanan ni Bernarda Alba, will premiere. Adapted by Chay Yew and transposed by Guelan Varela-Luarca, this production explores the world of Bernarda Alba and her five daughters, who are on an imposed eight-year mourning period after her husband’s death. The stage adaptation first premiered in Buenos Aires in 1945 under the direction of Margarita Xirgu, and it is regarded as one of the greatest Spanish-language plays of the twentieth century, adapted multiple times for stage and film.
And finally, in June 2027, Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s Sunday in the Park with George will be staged. Inspired by Georges Seurat’s painting, the musical explores the obsessive, beautiful, and often lonely journey of creating art. It first premiered on Broadway in 1984 under Lapine’s direction. It was given the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1985.
More details will be announced soon.
Meanwhile, the musical A Chorus Line is running for a limited engagement from March 12 to 29. Thursday and Friday shows are at 7:30 p.m. Two shows are staged on Saturdays and Sundays at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
