Joel Torre to star alongside Lee Joon-gi, Kentaro Sakaguchi in Asian series 'kiDnap GAME'
Filipino actor Joel Torre will be sharing the screen with Korean star Lee Joon-gi, Japanese actor Kentaro Sakaguchi, and other Asian stars in a new Japanese series called kiDnap GAME.
Viu Philippines announced that the thriller—which is a major co-production between PCCW Media’s MakerVille, Korean production company SimStory, and Japan's Fuji Television—follows a deadly survival challenge sparked by coordinated kidnappings across Asia.
The official logline reads: “The story begins with a series of simultaneous kidnappings in seven Asian cities: Tokyo, Seoul, Taipei, Singapore, Bangkok, Naha, and Manila. As the incidents are sensationally reported worldwide, a single email arrives at the homes of the victims' families: ‘How far will you go to save your loved one? Only one can be saved.’ Each participant in this game is given a different instruction, and to save their loved one, they must complete the instruction before the other participants. Why have these seven people, with different nationalities, backgrounds, and religions, become participants in this game? Who is organizing this survival game? What is their purpose...? The "kiDnap GAME," a life-or-death game played in extreme conditions, has begun.”
Torre will play the role of a taxi driver named Miguel from Manila who is consumed by a desire to protect his family from the poverty of his past. But when his beloved grandchild is violently kidnapped, his world shatters, dragging him straight into a lethal game of survival.
Lee Joon-gi, who is best known for his roles in the K-dramas Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo and Flower of Evil, plays Han Kijoo, a retired surgeon forced out of his peaceful civilian life and into a brutal survival arena after his visually impaired daughter is taken.
He is joined by Japanese star Sakaguchi, portraying Toshiro Niide, an elite investigator. When his wife becomes one of the captives, Niide’s mission transforms into a relentless personal hunt for the mastermind.
Also joining the cast are Alice Ko from Taipei, Stanley Yau from Hong Kong, Carrie Wong from Singapore, and Plue-Nalponkamon Chaisen from Bangkok.
kiDnap GAME is scheduled to premiere in 18 countries and regions this October.
