Inday Barretto passes away at 89
Estrella "Inday" Barretto, the matriarch of the prominent Barretto family, has passed away at the age of 89.
On Jan. 7, Joaquin first shared a photo of his mother in the hospital, followed by an update on Jan. 27 stating she was being moved to the ICU because the situation was "not good."
The following day, he shared a photo of himself and his sister Claudine by their mother’s bedside, captioned with a hopeful "Get well, mom."
However, by Thursday evening, Jan. 29, Joaquin confirmed her passing via Facebook with an image of a candle against a black backdrop, writing, "Rest in peace, Mom. I love you."
As of this writing, the family has not disclosed the cause of death or funeral arrangements.
Last October 2025, Inday made several claims about her celebrity daughters, Marjorie, Gretchen, and Claudine, during a two-part interview with Ogie Diaz. Among the things she shared about Marjorie, Inday said, “I feel rejection from her. I just feel like she loves me, but parang hindi ako enough sa kanya. Parang may hinahanap siya sa akin na hindi ko alam kung ano. Kasi kung alam ko, ibigay ko.”
She also accused Claudine's ex-husband, Raymart Santiago, of covering Claudine’s mouth with a towel, dragging her around, and chasing her like a cat would chase a scared mouse.
Marjorie and Raymart have both since spoken out regarding the claims.
In the same interview, Inday emphasized that she held no favoritism among her children, stating, "Wala akong mas mahal."
Talking about the passing of her eldest son, Mito—who had died just a month earlier—she offered a poignant reminder about time, "Kaya don't play around with life. Don't ever take life for granted. Kung may mahal kayo, sabihin nyo na."
Inday is survived by six of her seven children with her late husband, Miguel: Michelle, Joaquin, Gia, Gretchen, Marjorie, and Claudine. Their eldest, Mito, preceded her in death on Sept. 23, 2025.
