Macklemore to donate $1 million from Ed Sheeran tour earnings to Palestinian aid groups

Macklemore is donating his entire $1 million in net earnings from Ed Sheeran’s Loop Tour to six organizations supporting Palestinians.

The rapper announced the donation in an Instagram post on Wednesday, Sept. 16.

The organizations named in his post are the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund, Heal Palestine, Gaza Soup Kitchen, Medical Aid for Palestinians, UNRWA USA National Committee, and Anera.

“That is what this has always been about," he said. "Not me. Not a tour. Not the headlines or the controversy. It is about Palestinians right to freedom, dignity, and safety in their own homeland."

He also said he wanted to highlight the people providing and receiving humanitarian aid, including parents, medical workers, journalists, and aid workers.

“I want to center the organizers and activists who have paid real costs for standing with Palestine. Their risk is of a far different order than mine,” he continued.

This comes after Macklemore was removed from the remaining dates of Sheeran’s concert tour following his public comments in support of Palestine. The rapper had performed as one of Sheeran’s supporting acts, including at a Sept. 4 show at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

Sheeran later said that Macklemore’s removal was the tour promoter’s decision and not his own. The singer noted that he has personal views on the Israel-Palestine conflict but chooses not to use his professional platform in expressing them.

Following Macklemore’s departure, the other supporting acts for the remaining dates—including Finneas, Lukas Graham, Aaron Rowe, and Beoga—also withdrew from the tour.
