Sarah Discaya appears before NBI ahead of looming arrest warrant
Sarah Discaya has appeared at the National Bureau of Investigation office ahead of an imminent release of an arrest warrant against her.
According to multiple reports, Discaya went to the NBI after President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. made an earlier statement that a warrant of arrest against her would be issued within the week.
Meanwhile, Ma. Roma Angeline Rimando, president of the Discaya-owned St. Timothy Construction, on Monday, surrendered to the Pasig City Police. She was among those who were given graft and malversation complaints by the Office of the Ombudsman last Friday.
Discaya, her husband Curlee, and several DPWH executives are facing malversation raps over almost P100 million-worth of alleged ghost projects in Davao Oriental.
Discayas were thrown into the spotlight when Pasig Mayor Vico Sotto, whom Sarah unsuccessfully ran against in the midterm elections, posted about their controversial interviews with Korina Sanchez and Julius Babao. In the interviews, the couple talked about their "inspiring" rags-to-riches life story, showcasing their dozens of luxury cars and other assets.
After Sotto's posting, the couple's story unraveled and opened a can of worms. It led to flood control projects being the talk of the town, a Bureau of Customs chase, the revocation of the Discaya companies' licenses, and congressional hearings.
The couple, along with former DPWH engineers Henry Alcantara, Brice Hernandez, and Jaypee Mendoza, were made protected witnesses by the Department of Justice after they named several lawmakers in alleged budget insertions and kickbacks for flood control projects.
Earlier this week, the Office of the Ombudsman filed graft and malversation complaints against the Discayas, along with other officials of the Department of Public Works and Highways in Davao Occidental, over nearly P100 million in alleged ghost projects.
