New dishes and perks at Grand Hyatt Manila
Grand Hyatt Manila’s No. 8 China House, known for excellent Chinese cuisine, is highlighting their new creations alongside some favorite signature Cantonese dishes. Experience their new exciting offerings using contemporary interpretations by combining premium ingredients, traditional techniques and refined presentation.
Among the latest additions to the menu are Preserved Egg with Fried Green Peppers, Poached Clams in Spicy Sauce, and the Poached Duck Wing with Soy Sauce and Rose Wine, Wok-Fried Scallops with Broccoli in XO Sauce, and Stone Pot Angus Beef with Okra and Black Pepper.
My favorite would be the clam dish as this reminds me of one of my favorite Cantonese starters—marinated jellyfish. I loved the okra, too, with the super soft and tender peppered beef.
Also gaining recognition among diners is the Braised Dongpo Pork, a slow-braised specialty prized for its melt-in-the-mouth texture and rich, deeply developed flavors. The tender pork can be placed in a mantou bun to make a sandwich.
Alongside these newer offerings, No. 8 China House continues to serve the signature dishes that have established its reputation as a premier destination for Cantonese dining. These include the classic Crispy Pork Belly, Cantonese Style; Char Siu Barbecued Pork; Braised Chilean Sea Bass with Ginger, Garlic and Black Bean (another favorite of mine); Double-Boiled Papaya Soup with Fish Maw, Pork and Chicken; Deep-Fried Pumpkin with Salted Egg Yolk; Wok-Fried Rice with Egg White and Dried Scallop; and the No. 8 China House Grand Dessert Platter (beautifully presented complete with the fog dry ice produces).
The meal is great with the sparkling teas from Mindful Sparks of Hong Kong. I loved pairing these dishes with sparkling teas available in Yuzu Genmaicha, Peach Earl Grey, and Osmanthus Oolong, all of which are non-alcoholic beverages that offer a new and refreshing accompaniment to a Cantonese feast.
Aside from their new dishes, No. 8 China House still offers their Dim Sum Unbound, an unlimited dim sum feast that is served from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. daily except on Sundays.
Classic dim sum dishes, available for unlimited servings offered for lunch include Har Gow Shrimp Dumpling, Xiao Long Bao Pork Soup Dumplings, Siu Mai Pork Dumplings with Crab Roe, Crispy Barbecue Pork Bun, Chicken Feet with Black Bean Sauce, Garlic Pork Ribs, Barbecue Pork Buns, Beef Tripe with Satay Sauce, Lo Mai Gai (glutinous rice chicken) with Dried Shrimp, Dried Scallop and Chicken, and Steamed Beef Balls with Water Chestnut and Bean Curd Skin.
The selection also features an array of baked, fried and wok-finished favorites including Baked Abalone Puff, Mushroom and Vegetable Spring Rolls, Chicken Spring Rolls, Pan-Fried Turnip Cake with XO Sauce, Pan-Fried Chinese Chive and Pork Dumplings, and Deep-Fried Chicken Wings with Garlic. Chinese desserts include Mango Egg Tart, Sesame Ball with Lotus Paste, Mango, Passion Fruit and Pomelo Sago, Mango Pudding and seasonal fruits.
