Jay-Z's paternity case dismissed after decade-long legal battle

A paternity case filed by someone claiming to be the biological son of Jay-Z has been dismissed after a legal battle that lasted ten years.

Documents obtained by Page Six showed that Jay-Z's (real name: Shawn Carter) motion to dismiss the lawsuit has officially been granted by a California judge. This means that the man can't file the same case or request paternity tests from the music mogul.

According to the entertainment outlet, the issue began when Wanda Satterthwaite sought child support from Jay-Z in a lawsuit filed in New Jersey, claiming that they had an on-and-off relationship. It was initially dismissed but re-filed in 2014 and became public the following year. She died in 2016.

Her son Rymir, now 30, repeatedly claimed he's Jay-Z's biological son even after her death. He alleged that the musician impregnated his late mom in the 1990s.

Jay-Z has shut down the allegations through his lawyers.

“The fabricated allegations and claims have been addressed—and rejected—in multiple other courts,” they said in court records, adding that the claims have turned into a string of “harassment.”

In 2023, Rymir asked the court to force Jay-Z to take a DNA test. He told Daily Mail it was "not going to be over until justice is served."

"I won’t stop fighting for this until I win—and I will win because the law is on our side," he said at the time.

Jay-Z's camp again denied the claims shortly after and noted they "have been previously reviewed thoroughly by the courts and have been refuted." They added, "I am sure that will be the outcome of whatever filings Mr. Satterthwaite may be currently considering."
