Influencer-model Nara Smith reveals 2-year-old daughter's cancer diagnosis

Model and influencer Nara Smith revealed that her 2-year-old daughter has been diagnosed with cancer.

Smith opened up about her family's difficult journey in an Instagram video shared on Wednesday, July 1.

"There's no easy way to say this or to talk about any of this, but late last year, our daughter Whimsy got diagnosed with cancer," she began without sharing the specific type of cancer.

According to the social media star, their ordeal began after she and her husband, Lucky Blue Smith, noticed “something suspicious” on Whimsy and brought her to the hospital.

“They didn’t quite know what to make of it,” she said of the doctors’ initial assessment. 

Smith recalled feeling that something was wrong when they later visited a pediatrician. “I just remember him going really quiet and calm, and my heart dropped in that moment. I don’t know whether it was my gut telling me something or just a mom’s intuition, but the first thing that I felt was she has cancer,” she said.

The pediatrician advised the family to take her to the nearest children's hospital for further evaluation, where Whimsy was diagnosed after X-rays, ultrasounds, and a biopsy. "They told us it had spread and that she needs to come and start chemo treatments immediately," Smith recalled.

"Throughout all of this, I have been on a plethora of forums, social media, also talked to parents and family in the hospital, and all of that combined really brought me a lot of comfort and alleviated the feeling of loneliness for me," she shared.

The content creator described the experience of processing the diagnosis and navigating it as a family as “really hard,” adding that balancing her daughter’s treatment while recovering postpartum, caring for her other children, and keeping up with work has been especially challenging.

"Finding that balance is something that I struggle with on a daily basis," she opened up. "Some days are a little easier, some days are really hard. All I can do is try my best and show up in all those areas in the best way that I can."

Aside from Whimsy, the Smith couple shares three other kids: 5-year-old Rumble Honey, 4-year-old Slim Easy, and 9-month-old Fawnie Golden.

Smith became known for her narrated cooking videos, where she prepares meals from scratch while dressed in luxury fashion. She has 4.7 million followers on Instagram and 12.5 million followers on TikTok.
