RM admits to considering BTS disbandment, apologizes for comments on live broadcast
RM confessed that there were multiple times he thought of the disbandment of BTS during their hiatus.
On Dec. 6, the BTS member made the revelation on a WeVerse livestream after going through great lengths in explaining to fans the reason for their delayed comeback.
“I’ve thought tens of thousands of times, ‘Would it be better to disband or stop activities?’ But the reason we continue now is because of the love among members and respect for our fans.”
He encouraged fans to be patient with the group and consider what they are going through. “It might sound like an excuse, but considering the scale and various situations, I ask for your understanding. We will definitely return, and while it might not always meet your expectations, we will do our best.”
He also described the prerequisites and the intense pressure on the group in staging a comeback.
“We cannot easily come back until we present something that satisfies our fans. Since last month, I haven’t slept again. I was even considering whether to get a prescription for sleeping pills. The album is almost ready, and we practiced together yesterday as well," he said.
“Some preparation is needed. After being discharged, I wanted to pursue various activities, but there were reasons I couldn’t. I can’t disclose everything because I don’t have the right to speak on it," he disclosed. "Some preparation is needed. I don’t know about the other members, but personally, the pressure is immense. It’s true that just preparing is frustrating.”
RM issued an apology for the things he said on their fan community app two days later.
“I’m sorry for tiring many of you out with the live broadcast two days ago. I’ve received many messages. I regret turning on the live broadcast, as I was just overwhelmed with frustration. I’m sorry.”
“Please look at us a little more kindly,” he added, saying he will just focus on making music, practicing choreography with the group, and other future plans.
BTS went on hiatus in 2022 as group members started their mandatory military training. In June this year, Suga became the last member to finish his military service.
In July, the K-pop boy group announced a new album and a new world tour by the spring of 2026.
The group is widely considered South Korea's biggest-ever cultural phenomenon, selling out stadiums worldwide, dominating the charts, raking in billions, and building a global legion of fans known as ARMY. According to the Guinness World Records, it is the "most popular group in the world." They are best known for their hit songs Dynamite, Butter, and FAKE LOVE, among others.
