The summer solstice is happening this June.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Administration has shared some astronomical events that will take place in June, including a meteor shower.

The longest day of the year is set for June 21, marking the beginning of summer in the northern hemisphere and winter in the southern hemisphere.

"This happens when the Sun reaches the most northerly point in the sky, and so, on June 21, here in the northern hemisphere, we will experience the longest day and the shortest night," the state weather bureau said.

According to Norway-based website timeanddate.com, sunrise on this year's summer solstice is predicted to be at 5:28 a.m., with sunset at 6:27 p.m.

In 2025, the summer solstice also took place on June 21, giving Filipinos around 13 hours of daylight from 5:28 a.m. to 6:29 p.m.

Additionally, Filipinos can see the June Bootid meteor shower in the skies this month, starting June 22 until July 2. Its peak activity will be on June 27 and is best viewed at 8 p.m.

This June, Venus and Jupiter will also be in conjunction on June 9, meaning they'll both appear close together. The Moon and Saturn will be in conjunction on June 10, while the Moon and Mars will appear close on June 13.

Venus and Jupiter, and the Moon and Venus will appear near each other in the skies on June 17 and 18, respectively.
