'Incurable and too late for chemo': 'The Office' actress Lucy Davis reveals she has breast cancer

Lucy Davis, who played Dawn Tinsley in the original UK version of The Office, revealed that she was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer that has spread to her bones.

The 53-year-old actress shared an update on her health in an Instagram post on Tuesday, Aug. 11, saying she had kept her diagnosis private for a year and a half before deciding to speak publicly about it.

According to Davis, the cancer has metastasized to her spine, right hip, and ribs. "The cancer is incurable, and too late for chemo," she shared.

The actress urged her followers not to ignore unusual changes in their bodies, recalling that the first sign she noticed was not a typical lump but a “hard spot” that was very small. “I almost didn't bother getting it checked,” she shared.

Davis also opened up about how she's approaching her diagnosis, saying she wants to spend whatever time she has left enjoying life. “I'm not scared of whatever comes next. I'm at peace with it,” she said.

Despite her diagnosis, the British star said she still wants to work and remains able to do so. “I still would like to keep working. I'm perfectly able to do so, and acting is one of the biggest joys in my life.”

Davis received an outpouring of support after sharing her diagnosis, including from Jenna Fischer, who played Pam Beesly in The Office US. 

Davis played Dawn Tinsley, the receptionist and love interest of Tim Canterbury, portrayed by Martin Freeman, in the original British version of The Office. The series, created by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, ran from 2001 to 2003.

Aside from The Office, she also appeared in other films and television shows, including Shaun of the Dead, Wonder Woman, and Netflix's The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, where she played Hilda Spellman.

More recently, she portrayed the role of Eva in the Disney Channel action-comedy series The Villains of Valley View.
