Eumir Marcial’s wife sues athlete for alleged infidelity and abuse: 'I don't think I can ever survive the pain'
Trigger warning: This article contains mentions of abuse.
Princess Marcial, the wife of Filipino Olympic bronze medalist Eumir Marcial, revealed that she is taking legal action against the Olympian for alleged infidelity, manipulation, and abuse against her.
In a lengthy statement on Facebook, Princess shared "the truth" about their marriage and how she has had to "deal with such difficult events in my personal life that took a toll on my mental and emotional health."
"I caught Eumir having an affair in October last year. I, along with my sister, have personally caught them inside an Airbnb condominium in Pasay where we had them both arrested at a police station," she claimed.
According to her, Eumir and his alleged mistress both had to be temporarily detained for five days.
"Despite some of my family’s strong disapproval, I still gave Eumir multiple chances to make amends with our marriage, putting into consideration all that we have gone through and the difficult things we have survived as a couple," Princess said.
She reasoned that as his wife, she permitted his release by signing an affidavit of desistance as she felt like she "still owes Eumir the responsibility to forgive him" in spite of what he supposedly did to her. She added that the athlete's alleged mistress also signed the compromise agreement "thinking Eumir would take this chance to correct his mistake and do better."
However, Princess claimed Eumir continued to manipulate her after the incident as the athlete still supposedly fostered a "sickening love affair" with his alleged mistress from his hometown in Zamboanga City.
"I’ve managed to maintain some correspondence with some of our mutual and trusted friends in Zamboanga City where they alluded that Eumir and his mistress have decided to live together," she said.
"Apparently, he withdrew all our savings and used the money to construct a house for him and his mistress in Zamboanga. I also have friends who have personally seen them together," she added.
She explained that she could release evidence they have gathered to the public, but assured that they will be submitted to the court who will then determine the outcome of the case.
"For these obvious reasons, I had to go on separate ways with Eumir and severed all sources of communication with him after all the trauma, manipulation, emotional stress, physical abuse, and psychological torment that I had to endure these past few months and throughout our years of being together," Princess said.
Lamenting that she has sacrificed her career to help build Eumir's as his brand manager, she further alleged that she has received "active threats" that he will ensure that she "can no longer step in America nor get anything from our separation."
"Our marriage means a lot to me, because it has divine blessing guided by the knowledge that it is also the foundation of every family. How Eumir disrespected his vows to God and to me by cheating on me and continuously deceiving me had hurt me in unimaginable ways," she stressed.
As for the reason why she had made this issue public, she explained that she is "seriously concerned" about her safety, the safety of her family, and the potential witnesses of this case.
"It is not a secret that Eumir, being a well-recognized athlete, has also gained support and protection from his connections who are very much capable of influencing the outcome of this case," Princess said.
She continued, "They may also try to fabricate lies to fit their narrative and potentially discredit my experience, but I urge you to focus on the facts and based your judgement on the evidence we have at hand."
Princess opened up that she doesn't think that she "can ever survive the pain," but she hopes that by speaking up, she would be able to "help other women who may have been suffering in silence" and be given the "strength to continue in fighting for what is right."
"Please continue to help pray for me and my family’s healing as well as our safety throughout this process," she concluded.
The two tied the knot in 2021 after being together for nine years. Their wedding took place a year after the boxer achieved a bronze medal in the Tokyo Olympics.
Eumir previously competed in the 2024 Paris Olympics, but ended his journey without getting the gold after he lost to Turabek Khabibullaev of Uzbekistan via unanimous decision in the 16th round of the men's 80kg division.
Eumir has yet to address the case filed against him. PhilSTAR L!fe has also reached out to him for a comment on the matter, but has yet to receive a reply.
