Miss Universe Organization backs Fatima Bosch amid arrest warrant claim by Nawat Itsaragrisil
The Miss Universe Organization has spoken out after Miss Universe Thailand director Nawat Itsaragrisil said legal action is being taken against reigning titleholder Fatima Bosch.
On Aug. 22, Nawat shared an Instagram story stating that Bosch is currently "subject to an expedited process for the issuance of an arrest warrant." The Mexican beauty queen is accused of defamation, false allegations, and the dissemination of false information, according to the Miss Grand International president.
The MUO released a statement in support of Bosch on Aug. 23, stating, "Violence, intimidation, humiliation, disrespect, and mistreatment of women, in any of their forms, are unacceptable."
"When Fatima Bosch raised her voice in defense of her dignity following the treatment she experienced from Mr. Nawat Itsaragrisil, she reminded women everywhere of something fundamental: respect is not something we earn through silence. It is a right."
For her part, Bosch also stated that she does not regret standing up for herself.
"Although it continues to have repercussions months later, if there is one thing I want women to learn from my story, it is this: standing up for your dignity should never be a reason to be afraid," she said in a statement in Spanish, as translated by Google.
"The whole world saw what happened that day. It was all recorded. There is nothing more to say."
Following the statements, Nawat posted a cryptic Instagram story about how no one is above the law.
"Stop exploiting others and spreading deceptive narratives. Let the truth and the law prevail," he wrote.
This all comes months after a pre-pageant sashing ceremony in November 2025, where Nawat publicly confronted Bosch about her absence at a sponsor shoot. The incident prompted Bosch and other contestants to walk out of the event, including Miss Universe 2024 Victoria Theilvig.
Nawat has since apologized for the confrontation and has taken legal action against Bosch, claiming she made false accusations against him that tarnished his reputation.
Miss Universe Thailand further reaffirmed that Nawat never called Bosch a "dumbhead," and that what he said was "damage."
In an interview with ABC's Nightline in December 2025, the beauty queen claimed that Nawat wanted to "humiliate" her in front of the crowd.
"I told him, [you] can't talk [to] me like that. You can't call me dumb. I was scared at that time."
Bosch's win has been plagued by controversy, as one judge who resigned alleged that finalists were chosen in advance. Some critics also suggested her win was influenced by her father, an oil executive with business ties to the pageant's co-owner from Mexico, Raul Rocha Cantu.
