What's in the 77th Emmys gift bags?

As the 77th Emmy Awards unfold, all eyes are not only on the nominees and winners, but also on the famed “goody bags” they're getting. What exactly do the winners, nominees, and presenters bring home—you know, aside from the shiny golden statuette for a select few?

The Emmy Awards Giving Suite is an exclusive perk backstage for presenters and nominees. During rehearsals and the live telecast, this special group of talented artists has the privilege to select items from a curated display of products and services. The posh array of gifts is produced, for the first time this year, by Distinctive Assets, a marketing company that regularly presents similar goodies for other major award shows.

PEOPLE Magazine reported that at the Giving Suite, talents this year can choose among a wide range of gifts, including luxury products from Miage Skincare, tumblers from HydroJug, and bespoke floral arrangements from Blooms by Maison d’Emilie.

Aside from the bounty they get from the Giving Suite, Emmy nominees and presenters also receive the much-talked-about Emmys Gift Bag, which is likewise produced by Distinctive Assets.

This isn’t any normal party goody bag. Talents at this year’s Emmys will go home with a bag each filled with luxurious items from L’Oréal Paris, Chanla Chau Cosmetics, Flexitol Heel Balm, and Redken NYC; products from wellness brands 1MD Nutrition’s VisionMD, Beekeeper’s Naturals, Designs for Health, Helight Sleep, and Vital Proteins. There will also be something from Johnnie Walker Blue Label Blended Scotch Whisky and Tea Forté. Other items are a $139 (almost P8,000) Helight Red Light Sleep Aid, a $140 (over P8,000) PETA x Miomojo Angelica Bag made with faux leather, and a Tea Tasting Assortment Tea Chest valued at $69 (almost P4,000).

In addition to other luxury items, talents also receive Desaur Spa gift cards and over $2,000 (P114,544) in personal training sessions from Training Loft.

The Daily Beast reported that, in total, the Emmys Gift Bag is worth $25,000 (P1.4 million).

More than just gifts

Brands, as expected, invest much to have their products and services included in the Emmy Awards Giving Suite. Forbes reported that in 2021, companies paid up to $6,000 (P343,632) for the privilege of putting one of their products in the Emmy Gift Bag. And to secure a space at the Giving Suite for their offerings, brands reportedly pay from $15,000 (P859,000) to $250,000 (P14.3 million).

The recipients of these gifts, however, are required to pay taxes on items valued at $600 (P34,000) and over, according to Marketplace

There is an altruistic back story to The Giving Suite. It supports the Television Academy Foundation’s Internship and College Television Awards programs, as well as the preservation project, The Interviews: An Oral History of Television. Ultimately, these programs help students from all backgrounds gain access to the television industry. Over the past decade, The Giving Suite has raised over $1 million for this cause.

This year’s Emmys—which continues to put the spotlight on the best in comedy, drama, and limited TV series—is hosted by comedian Nate Bargatze. Big winners so far include Severance, Hacks, The Studio, and Adolescence.
