Baguio City set to redevelop Session Road in 2027
Session Road in Baguio City is getting a makeover.
The Baguio City Public Information Office announced that redevelopment plans are set for 2027 to improve pedestrian spaces, drainage and sewer systems, and traffic flow along the major thoroughfare.
According to city engineer Richard Lardizabal, the project aims to widen sidewalks on both sides of session roads, incorporating loading and unloading bays.
They will also have bio-retention areas, which are designed to absorb and manage rainwater underground.
Additionally, the project will repair deteriorated drainage and sewer systems.
For traffic management works, Lardizabal said the road will not be entirely closed off, as construction will be carried out by sections.
He also acknowledged that businesses that could be affected by construction, traffic adjustments, and the relocation of plants may raise concerns about the project.
Lardizabal said that the redevelopment project was previously funded at around P120 million but was not pursued amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, the plan has a P150 million budget from the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority.
It's part of the city's efforts to address urban concerns and prevent urban decay.
Session Road is a 1.7km major road serving as the hub of the Baguio Central Business District.
