XG's Cocona comes out as transmasculine nonbinary on her birthday
XG’s Cocona marked their birthday by coming out publicly as transmasculine nonbinary and declaring their freedom to live authentically.
The Korean artist on Saturday shared that "there's something that’s been in my heart for a long time." They said that they are an AFAB (assigned female at birth) transmasculine nonbinary and had top surgery earlier this year.
"I was born and perceived as female, but that label never represented who I truly am. I live in a way that feels more masculine and true to who I am," they explained.
Cocona said that it was hard to accept and embrace herself, but when they learned to do so, they were "able to open a new door."
"That moment changed the way I see and understand the world, and it gave me the courage and strength to grow," they said.
"Now, I can finally say, 'There’s nothing wrong with who I am inside.' I was only able to come this far because of the people who listened and stood by me—my members, Simon-san, and my parents," they continued, saying that they are "truly grateful for this path, and for every miracle that brought us together."
They thanked those people who supported them along the way and shared that they are excited for the future.
"I’m so excited for the future we’ll continue to create together with XG and XGALX. May these words gently light a spark in someone’s heart. And to everyone who needs it—may my love reach all of them," Cocona said.
Cocona is known as the main rapper and maknae (youngest) of the Japanese global girl group, XG. Signed under XGALX, she is a Japanese artist who excels as a rapper, singer-songwriter, and dancer.
