Does unliking a photo remove the notification? Instagram CEO explains
Scrolled through an ex's profile and you accidentally liked a post from way back? The Instagram CEO dared to answer what goes down in the process.
In a video on the platform, Instagram Chief Executive Officer Adam Mosseri explained the difference between two types of notifications: phone and in-app.
Mosseri said that when a user likes someone's photo, the other user will be notified with both of the notifications.
He explained that while Meta can delete Instagram notifications, the one on the lock screen will stay.
"When you unlike that photo, we can delete that Instagram notification, but we cannot delete that phone notification," Mosseri said. "So it will still say on your lock screen, 'Adam liked that photo.'"
"If we can delete that phone notification, we would, but we can't," he confessed.
"So just make sure as you're scrolling through someone's content for many many years ago, that you're careful you're not liking anything by mistake," Mosseri said as an ultimate warning to users.
As per Meta, Mosseri's job as Instagram CEO is to "oversee all functions of the business including engineering, product and operations."
