Shuvee Etrata addresses old posts on ABS-CBN shutdown, Vice Ganda following backlash
Shuvee Etrata has broken her silence on the issues surrounding her following public backlash for her resurfaced videos and posts where she appeared to make jabs on the shutdown of ABS-CBN as well as Vice Ganda.
In an interview on TV Patrol, the Pinoy Big Brother: Celebrity Collab edition alum admitted that the harsh remarks thrown against her have become too much for her to bear.
"There were nights that I cried because naapektuhan ako," she said.
One old post that had received renewed attention was how she apparently supported the shutdown of ABS-CBN broadcasting in 2020 after Congress was unable to renew the franchise before its expiration date.
Shuvee clarified, "I was really against the shutdown of ABS-CBN kasi, in fact, I was a fan. I even tweeted po na ABS-CBN is a culture. You're taking something from us, the people. Kasi for me growing up, I've always watched ABS-CBN and Ms. Annette [Gozon-Valdes] knows about it."
The local star is also being criticized for a meme she shared on Facebook showing Coco Martin and Vice Ganda crying. The meme includes a dialogue from Coco in Bisaya that translates to, "Tingnan mo Vice, inaway mo kasi si Quiboloy, na-shutdown tuloy."
"Joke lang naman yun," a dialogue from Vice read.
Shuvee then captioned the post, "I can hear Vice," and accompanied it with a sad face emoji.
Another post that resurfaced was when she took on the "Jojowain o Totropahin" challenge, where she let out an "Eww" when Vice's picture came up.
Explaining the posts, Shuvee asserted that these were "taken out of context" and that she simply liked to use memes with Vice's face in it.
"Nag-ew talaga ako kasi parehas kaming girl," she reasoned.
Shuvee has also left fans confused at her sudden exit from the noontime show, It's Showtime. When asked if return to the program, she said, "[Nakadepende kasi 'yun] sa availability ng schedule. I really love Showtime. I'm really grateful for Meme for giving me that opportunity to be on Showtime."
She also shared that she contacted Vice to address and clarify the fake news that was circulating about her.
"Kasi gusto ko lang din i-clarify yung side ko na, 'Meme, I was always honest about my feelings to you. I never lied. I'll wait po. I'm here to wait naman po.' And tomorrow we will see each other sa shooting, so maybe we can talk things out," she said.
Because of the backlash, Shuvee was forced to deactivate her X account for the time being, but she admitted that she now misses it.
She went on to acknowledge that while she welcomes constructive criticism, she is setting the boundary for hate messages.
"Masakit din kasi kapag sobra silang nagju-judge, as in 'di ko nasasabi 'yung saloobin ko. Parang pinagtutulungan ako ng lahat. Parang nagtataka ako, ano bang maling ginawa ko? May tinapakan ba akong tao, may ninakaw ba ako?" she lamented.
Despite the controversies, she assured her fans, "I'm really confident to say that right now, you're facing the better Shuvee, one who decides and thinks for the betterment of others."
Apart from her stint in Pinoy Big Brother, Shuvee also played roles in the GMA TV series Hearts on Ice and the ongoing teleserye of Encantadia Chronicles: Sang'gre.
