The Matcha Tokyo

Matcha is a flavor that is hard to get right, especially if coffee and milk tea shops don’t handle the finnicky ingredient with care. If done with attention to detail, the drink tastes earthy and rich instead of just bitter or astringent—this is what The Matcha Tokyo strives for. Founded in 2018 by Masahiro Nagata and Maki Sotokawa in Japan, the brand uses quality, authentic, and organic matcha with much umami and nutrients. While it ensures high standards of flavor, color, and aroma, The Matcha Tokyo also observes sustainability. It doesn't use chemicals in growing its matcha leaves, only using natural spring water and soft soil with microorganisms.

One must-try at the café is the Matcha Coconut Latte, a drink that even matcha newbies will like. It blends the earthy green tea flavor with creamy coconut so it’s not too strong. It also serves classic matcha, coffee, pastries, and smoothies. Matcha Tokyo stays true to its roots as the interiors feature a minimalistic style and Japanese sensibilities. Expect a quiet and calm atmosphere at the café, which features a lot of open space and light—perfect for getting work done or chilling out. From its drinks to its aesthetics, Matcha Tokyo not only champions tradition but also embraces innovation.

Matcha Tokyo has branches at Ayala Malls Vertis North, Gateway Mall II, Mitsukoshi Bonifacio Global City, Opus, and Parqal.
