Marcos approves 21 priority bills, including travel tax abolition, anti-dynasty
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has approved 21 priority measures of the Legislative-Executive Development Advisory Council, including the abolition of the travel tax and the anti-dynasty bill.
Palace Press Officer Usec. Claire Castro said in a Feb. 9 briefing that the 21 proposals are eyed for passage in June.
"Natuwa at kuntento naman ang pangulo sa mga priority bills na inaasahang maipapasa bago mag-Hunyo ngayong taon," she said of the Ledac meeting.
Present at the meeting were Senate President Tito Sotto, House Speaker Bojie Dy, senators Migz Zubiri, Win Gatchalian, and Risa Hontiveros, among others.
Castro added that Marcos is prioritizing travel tax abolition to help boost tourism in the country.
"Batid din ng pangulo na ang mga nagbabyahe na ating mga kababayan ay hindi lang para mamasyal kundi ang iba ay para sa trabaho at ang iba ay para naman sa emergency cases din," she continued.
Currently, Filipino adults pay a full travel tax amounting to P2,700 for first class and P1,620 for economy.
The president also seeks to pass the anti-dynasty bill this June. Several versions of the measure have been filed in the House of Representatives and Senate by his son House Majority Leader Sandro Marcos, House Speaker Bojie Dy, the Makabayan Bloc, and senators Bam Aquino and Risa Hontiveros, among others.
"Sa ngayon po ay nagkakaroon pa lang ng consultation ang Kongreso. So kung ano ibibigay nilang version, doon pa lamang malalaman ng pangulo kung anong mas maganda at kung anong kanyang susuportahan," Castro said.
