Score low delivery fees for solo orders, buy travel bundles, and more in this ride-hailing app

Many of us know the feeling: a late-night craving hits for something like milk tea or fries, only to be met with the frustration of delivery minimums or the need to add more items to justify the cost. Or how about waiting for hours to book an airport ride? Fortunately, this ride-hailing app is addressing these common pain points.
PhilSTAR L!fe recently attended Grab's inaugural product launch event, GrabX, in Singapore, which showcased solutions that intend to help hands-on parents, solo travelers, foodies, and busy employees.
"In designing these solutions, our goal is to remove friction and open up new ways for our users to focus on what truly matters, whatever role they might be playing,” said Philipp Kandal, Chief Product Officer of Grab.
Share delivery fees with strangers
Centering on the “For Every You” theme, Grab introduced new features catering to families, travelers, and foodies. One of the promising releases is the Shared Saver—a feature that lets you piggyback your order with strangers within your area so you can score lower delivery fees and zero small order fees.
To enjoy the feature, simply join an order broadcast on the app’s delivery page. The prompt is available for 10 minutes, but if you’ve started the pool order and no one joins in, you will still get to enjoy the low delivery fee under Saver delivery.
You can now order that cup of iced coffee or milk tea, without having to convince (or force) your family and/or friends to add an order just to split the delivery fee. Note, though, that orders under this feature cannot be canceled, so be sure before checking out. This feature is yet to officially roll out, but it is currently in its pilot testing in the Philippines from April to June.
Another win for solo eaters is the GrabFood for One, where you can enjoy solo meal options with a fixed low delivery fee.
Perks for travelers
If you’re a budget traveler, Travel Pass is something worth checking. In this offering, you get to score promo bundles on food and rides for your trips in Southeast Asia. Simply purchase the pass for P60 (P45 for GrabUnlimited users) and enjoy 20% off airport rides and 8% off on Grab rides, and discounts on GrabFood. You can purchase this before or after you’ve arrived at your destination, and it is valid for four weeks from the date of purchase.
The feature is now live on the app, so you can already use it on your upcoming trips.
You may also skip the stress and hassle of catching a ride to the airport using the Advance Booking (Airport pickup). This feature allows you to book your ride going to and from the airport up to 90 days from your preferred date of pickup. Simply tap the “Advance Booking” icon located on the transport homepage of the Grab app and schedule your airport rides.
This feature also allows your driver to monitor your flight status, so they are notified if there are delays. If your initial driver cancels, the app will automatically allocate others who are available for the ride.
This feature is now live in airports like Soekarno–Hatta International Airport in Jakarta, Yogyakarta International Airport, Juanda International Airport in Surabaya, Kuala Lumpur International Airport 1, Phuket International Airport, and Seletar Airport in Singapore.
It is expected to roll out in the Philippines later this year.
Exploring a foreign country may be challenging, especially when looking for the best places to eat out. To save you time, the app will also have the Dine Out Discovery, which lets you explore restaurant options that you can filter by cuisine, ratings, price, and the nearest one. Simply tap on restaurants to see menus, photos, operating hours, and more.
This feature is set to launch in May.
For families, large gatherings
The super-app also launched solutions to revamp safety for your kids, especially teens. If you will not be able to fetch your kids from school or an event, you can now easily monitor and/or book their rides via a Family/Teens account.
This feature will have a PIN verification from the driver and input to the app so you're sure that your teens don’t get into the wrong car with the wrong driver. It is also equipped with AudioProtect, which can detect unusual or dangerous activities on the trip, such as abrupt car stops, loud noises, and the like, allowing the app to intervene in real-time.
This feature will be launched in May.
Meanwhile, for those hosting a large gathering, Grab offers a streamlined solution for bulk orders, automatically assessing the required riders or vehicles to guarantee timely delivery.
