Beloved Japanese manga and anime star, Doraemon, made a high-fashion upgrade as it headlines Gucci's capsule collection in celebration of Chinese New Year 2021.

The Italian fashion brand initially announced the team up in July 2020 with its Resort 2021 collection that featured the futuristic feline on its shopping totes.

After releasing a three-way collab with The North Face and Pokémon GO in December, Gucci recently revealed its 50-piece capsule collection that shows Doraemon in different poses emblazoned on coats, jackets, tracksuits, bags and accessories.

Most of the products in the collection feature the brand’s classic GG monogram pattern. Gucci’s signature design elements are also present in the items including its trademark green and red stripes accent that run down sleeves, along hems, and on wallets and bags.

The Doraemon x Gucci capsule collection items range between 160 British pounds and 5,800 British pounds (approximately P10,500 and P380,000). They are available online and at select Gucci stores.

Doraemon, created by Japanese duo Fujiko Fujio, was first introduced in 1970 in a Japanese manga series and later on starred in an anime series that has become a beloved character over the years. Doraemon is also considered a Japanese cultural icon, which celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2020.

This is not first time that Gucci did a cartoon collab. In November 2020, it released a Gucci x Donald Duck collection that featured Donald Duck and his nephews Huey, Dewey and Louie. Donald Duck also appeared in the brand’s men's Spring/Summer 2017 collection.

And to ring in the Lunar New Year of 2020, which was the Year of the Rat in the Chinese calendar, the fashion house also teamed up with Disney and featured Mickey Mouse on a full range of items.
