Carla Abellana on her black and white couture bridesmaid gowns: 'No to infinity gowns'

Wearing black to a wedding has been seen as a fashion faux pas—but not to Carla Abellana, who recently dressed her entourage in black and white and prints for her wedding with actor Tom Rodriguez.

Breaking tradition, Abellana wanted something unique and true to her style, something more couture as if her bridesmaids were coming out of a fashion show.

“No to infinity gowns, no to typical Bridesmaids gowns, no to the usual Mother of the Bride and Groom gowns, no to one-fabric-only-in-different-cuts gowns,” she said in a post.

The actress then reached out to fashion designer Franko Barrio, who, thankfully for her, shares the same vision as hers.

“A collaboration between two individuals sharing the same couture dreams and runway ideas. Something that i’ve been longing to execute with @franko.barrio for my ENTOURAGE,” Abellana added.

Calling it his “dream project,” Barrio was able to produce gowns that are edgy yet elegant, with prints like polka dots and stripes for the bridesmaids and Baroque acanthus leaves for the matron-of-honor.

“YES to Couture. Yes to no-two-gowns-alike. HUGE YES to printed. This is what i wanted to achieve. And Franko did exactly that,” Abellana said.

Barrio shared in a post that some of the gowns were made without the clients fitting the gown, but they still turned out perfect.

“I’d like to believe we made it. We made it through, beautifully,” Barrio added.

Sharing several snaps on her Instagram, the happy bride truly achieved the wedding of her dreams, thanks to Barrio.

“I made the perfect choice in carefully choosing my ENTOURAGE’S Designer. Franko and i have always been on the same page since day 1. And there’s absolutely nothing i would change,” she said.

In a message for the fashion designer, Abellana added: “The Ladies are happy they all got to wear unique pieces that they can surely treasure along with memories shared with you at your atelier for the rest of their lives.”
