Times are really changing!

A Pinoy couple based in the United States went out of the ordinary as they got hitched in wedding tattoos instead of traditional rings.

Manisa Guillamun, 24, exchanged “I do’s” with the love of her life Vincent Paul Cruz, 23, on May 22 in Washington. “It was hard to find a venue due to COVID-19 so we both decided to get married at a courthouse. Nothing fancy—just with our two friends who were our witnesses, and the judge,” Manisa told PhilSTAR L!FE. “We were also on FaceTime with my husband’s mom and brother since they’re in a different state. After that, we went for a drive to the woods for a photoshoot.”

The lovely pair, who first crossed paths in the military, both have relatives who served in the army. “His grandfather fought in the World War II, his grandfather and father both served in the Philippine Army Reserves,” she shared. “As for me, my uncles and cousins served as well and I’ve always wanted to follow in my dad’s footsteps to join the US Army.”

They got engaged after a Mount Rainier hike and got matching tattoos to mark their incredible love for each other. “I’ve always known, deep in my heart, that this is the man destined for me,” she said. “My dad was an infantryman in the army just like him, so I kind of got used to their love language.”

The question is—why tattoos? “We wanted something unique and we both love tattoos,” she mused. “I guess it’s also why I liked him. Tall guy with tattoos? That’s my weakness right there!” Manisa added with a laugh.

It drew mixed reactions from their nearest and dearest, with most of them pointing out their practicality. “Others were saying ‘This really is forever, ain’t it?’” she recalled. “Well, there’s no turning back this time.”
