Elon Musk to reportedly charge businesses $1,000 (P50,000) if they want to stay verified on Twitter

In an attempt to rake in revenues, Elon Musk is reportedly going to charge companies and brands $1,000 (P50,000) monthly to retain their verified check-marks on the social media platform.

According to tech news site The Information as carried by Variety, Twitter will be requiring businesses to pay the said amount per month along with an additional $50 (P2,700) for each affiliated sub-account if they still want to maintain their gold check-mark verification badges.

This was shared by social media consultant Matt Navarra after he emailed Twitter regarding his interest in verified organizations.

"If you'd like to subscribe, Verified for Organizations is $1000 dollars per month, and $50 dollars per additional affiliated handle per month with one month of free affiliations," the email read.

This was subsequently confirmed by The Information, but added that the pricing "is being finalized and could still change."

This feature falls under the new “Twitter Blue for Business” services that will allow customers to link individuals, businesses and brands that are affiliated with the account, wherein they will be receiving a small badge of their parent company’s profile picture next to its checkmarks.

Musk previously announced that legacy verified check-marks, or those that are given to a notable account representing a politician, a celebrity or an activist, will soon be discontinued and be replaced by those that are paid by individual and corporate customers.

This comes as the mega-billionaire has gathered a debt of $12.5 billion and had made headlines for being the first person in history to lose $200 billion from his net worth—from $340 billion in November 2021 to $137 billion in late December.
