The Philippines has recorded 9,296 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, March 31, the Department of Health said, marking the fifth straight day of 9,000 new cases in a day.

This brings the total active COVID-19 cases in the country to 124,680, or 16.8% of the 741,181 total.

The DOH also reported 103 recoveries and five deaths.

This comes as the country remains to struggle with the current surge in new COVID-19 cases. Yesterday, March 29, saw the country reporting 10,016 new cases, its highest ever.

The Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases said it will meet later this week to discuss if the enhanced community quarantine in Metro Manila, Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, and Rizal will be extended after April 4.
