The MTV Video Music Awards 2021 has announced the start of its nominations on Wednesday Aug.11

Justin Bieber leads the nomination field with seven nominations in top categories for Video of the Year, Artist of the Year, and Best Pop. Bieber has also recently reached milestones to his career as the youngest soloist ever to achieve eight No. 1 albums with recent drop LP Justice.

Megan Thee Stallion tails closely behind with one nomination shy, totaling six in top categories mostly for WAP collaboration with Cardi B.

Behind Bieber and Megan, more notable VMA Veterans followed, all tied with five nominations each: Billie Eilish, BTS, Doja Cat, Drake, and Lil Nas X of big hit “Montero (Call Me By Your Name),” nominated alone in five categories.

First-timers such as Giveon followed through with five nominations alongside Fil-Am pop singer Olivia Rodrigo, which has recently been added to the “Billions Club” playlist on Spotify for drivers license.

Another Fil-Am artist also got in the nominations as TikTok sensation Bella Poarch’s Build A Bitch leads the nominations for Best Visual Effects, which featured other famous Filipino artists such as Internet star Bretman Rock.

Ed Sheeran’s Bad Habits and The Weeknd’s Save Your Tears are in tight competition with WAP, Drake and DJ Khaled’s Popstar, Doja’s Kiss Me More, and Montero for the highly coveted Video of the Year.

Voting in the VMA’s 14 gender-neutral categories is open until Sept. 3. The Awards will be aired live on MTV on Sept. 12, and is finally returning to Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York for the first time since 2013.
