Witty gifts to give your single pals this Valentine’s Day—because why not?

By JUSTINE PUNZALAN Published Feb 05, 2021 11:21 pm Updated Feb 07, 2021 3:03 am

Most of us have that friend who has been living a comfortable, happy life as a single gal until she is bugged (too many times) by the iffy question, "Wala ka pa ring jowa?”

Doing overtime work every Valentine's Day would have been fine for her if only she's not left alone while everyone is enjoying their romantic dinner dates.

While this year's "single awareness day" will be a bit different for her (thank God for the peace and quiet at home), why not perk her up with thoughtful and quirky gifts she can totally relate to? After all, you love her tons, right?

PhilSTAR Life rounds up some of the wittiest ones that could give her a good laugh and, more importantly, make her feel loved on that special day.

Dedication cakes

Show your friend the fun of being single with the pretty and tasty treats of Cakes for the Sassy. The store is known for making Instagrammable dedication cakes with witty messages thought up by clients. You can choose among these unique variants: the Birthday Cake with three layers of moist vanilla chiffon, your choice of pink or white buttercream frosting and sprinkles, or the Make $$$ Move, which consists of three layers of rich chocolate cake frosted with 64% chocolate ganache and showered with "gold pearls and #blingkles."

They come in six inches worth P950 for the Birthday Cake and P1,399 for the Make $$$ Move, as well as eight inches at P1,499 for the Birthday Cake and P2,340 for the chocolate cake. Book your orders on their Instagram account four to five days before pick-up from their store in Diego Silang Ave., Phase 4 AFPoval, Taguig.

Half heart cake

So your friend can't move on from heartbreak? Or is she just marupok? Sweeten up her V-day with The SundayGrams' quirky half heart cake. It's a 7"x4" moist vanilla or cookies and cream cake frosted with buttercream that you can get for P900.

If you prefer something lighter, opt for their strawberry custard macaroons filled with fresh strawberry halves and real vanilla cream. They are available in boxes of four for P750. It's best to contact them on their Facebook page as early as today because the cut-off for Feb. 14 orders is on Wednesday, Feb. 10.

Hugot pots

If your friend's a plantita, then Itaenim Class' "hugot pots" will surely add more jazz to her plant haven. Located in Balara, Queson City, the store offers pots made out of earthenware ceramic and inscribed with relatable hugot lines. According to Itaenim Class co-owner Miranda de Quiros, she and her friends decided to sell the pots with the desire to make people happy amid the pandemic. “There are three of us behind Itaenim Class—Miranda de Quiros, Olive Zarate, and Michelle Tan—who have been longtime friends, plantitas, and fans of K-dramas," she told PhilSTAR Life.

"We sort of wanted to bring all those things together in a fun business venture. We are also inspired by our many friends who are going through a lot in life, especially with the pandemic. So, we wanted to make them smile with our pots. ‘Yun lang, sa-Pot na," she said.

The pots come in three sizes: small (14.5 cm in height) for P600, medium (16.5 cm) for P650, and large (18.5 cm) for P700. You can also order them with plants such as bacularis (P550), aglaonemas (P1,000), and philodendrons (P1,500) on their Instagram page.

Statement shirts

Surprise your buds Linya-Linya’s statement shirts ‘cause it’s just cool to “Netflix and chill” in hip casual wear on Valentine’s Day. The brand recently released new designs that would definitely speak to the single peeps. The “Walandi” shirt is for those who’d rather not mingle “for various reasons,” while the “Gandang Walang Pahinga” tee is perfect for those “pagod per pak!” Coffee lovers would also dig the shirt that says, “Lakompake basta may kape.”

All items are unisex and made out of 60% cotton, 40% polyester, and, as Linya-Linya said, “100% komportable sa piling mo.” You may place your orders on their website or Lazada and Shopee stores.

Pamper boxes

Nothing beats “me time” spent pampering yourself, don’t you think? Give your girlfriends their much-deserved TLC with Sage and Ivory’s gift boxes. The Galantine’s Box contains Calm and Cozy soy candle, Nature Republic Real Nature Rose mask sheet, and Calm and Cozy pink Himalayan bath salts for P1,200. You can also opt for the Sweet Dreams box filled with nighttime essentials such as Cacao Lavezares white chocolate bar, Tea Source MNL Globe Amaranth tea, Calm and Cozy hand-poured soy candle, and silk eye mask, all for P1,800.

Sage and Ivory scheduled Feb. 11 and Feb. 13 as delivery dates for Valentine’s Day gifts to save on delivery fees. They are charging a fixed rate of P150 as the delivery fee for Metro Manila customers who would book those dates. To place an order, visit Sage and Ivory Box's Instagram account.
