Jollibee Foods Corp has ordered the temporary closure of its franchised store along Bonifacio-Stop Over after an unpleasant customer experience involving its iconic fried chicken that made the rounds on social media.

On June 2, an online user expressed her dismay about her Chickenjoy order for delivery, which turned out to be a deep-fried towel coated in breading. “This is really disturbing… How the hell do you get the towel in the batter and even fry it!?!? Yung totoo?” she wrote in a post.

The post quickly turned viral on Facebook, drawing over 88,000 mixed reactions, 1,800 comments, and 80,000 shares as of this writing.

The issue led to an investigation on the matter, which prompted the food chain to close the branch for three days starting today, June 3. For this period, Jollibee will “thoroughly review its compliance with procedures and retrain its store team to ensure that this will not happen again.”

“We will also send out reminders to all stores to ensure the strict adherence to Jollibee’s food preparation systems,” the company added in its official statement

The fast-food restaurant continued on to note that they have put up and followed protocols for proper food preparation to ensure the delivery of high-quality products and customer satisfaction.

“We at Jollibee are committed to take necessary steps to maintain the trust and loyalty that our customers have given us throughout the years,” the company said.
