5 celebrities who win at motherhood despite having kids young

By KAREN AVERION PANGAN Published May 09, 2021 11:24 am

Being a mother is one of the hardest yet most rewarding roles a woman can have. And while being a good parent is not defined by age, we do have to admit that it is more challenging for those who have kids at a younger age due to a number of reasons.

This is why young moms who ultimately win at parenting are always so inspiring!

Check out this list of all our favorite young moms in show business.

1. Sarah Lahbati

The now Mrs. Gutierrez was only 19 years old when she gave birth to her son Zion in 2013. She and Richard Gutierrez got together after working in the teleserye Makapiling Ka Muli in 2012 and got engaged in 2017. In 2018, the couple had their second son Kai, and the pair tied the knot in March 2020.

Despite being freshly married, Sarah and Richard are now considered one of the most established young couples in showbiz after living together as a family for many years.

Despite her young age when she became a mom, Sarah has always been a role model to other moms young and old. In a message that she dedicated to Zion for his eighth birthday, she shared: “8 years ago, he changed our lives and made it magical. I thank God every day for giving us such a precious, kind, thoughtful and sweet boy. So lucky to be your momma.”

2. Kylie Jenner

Some might think being a young billionaire and owner of a makeup empire might have had an easier time when it comes to being a young mom, but Kylie Jenner sure does have her own pains related to parenthood.

The youngest of the Kardashian-Jenner brood, Kylie was 20 years old when she had her child Stormi with boyfriend Travis Scott. She tried to keep her pregnancy under wraps between 2017 and 2018 despite being barraged by rumors during, and only officially announced her new status as a mom on Instagram.

“There was no gotcha moment. No big paid reveal I had planned. I knew my baby would feel every stress and every emotion so I chose to do it this way for my little life and our happiness.”

Kylie also dedicated a very sweet message to Stormi who has just turned three this year. “Thank you God for sending this little soul to me. Crying today because I can’t stop the time. It’s all the little things I’ll miss like your cute voice and our long talks on the potty. Watching you experience everything for the very first time has been the best part of these last few years but on the other side, I’m excited to watch you grow into the most special girl I know you be and all the amazing things I know you will do.”

3. Andi Eigenmann

Andi was at the peak of her showbiz career when she had her first child Ellie in 2011, when she was 20 years old. While she did pick up her showbiz run after giving birth—and even did more successful projects during the succeeding years—she announced that she was taking a step back from her career in 2017 so that she could focus on being a mother to her child. In 2018, she started dating professional surfer Philmar Alipayo with whom she has two children, Lilo and Koa.

Many people praise Andi for her brave decision to leave her glamorous celebrity life, especially since she has opted to live in Siargao.

Her Instagram is a gold mine, too, for parents who are looking for a real and raw take on motherhood. In one of her posts, she shared: “Not all days are perfect when Lilo and I are left together but I don’t regret any decision I’ve made that brought us there. When days are tough I’ve just learned to find my zen and go about it with a smile regardless. While Ellie is the reason for all the positive changes in my life, Lilo also allows me to continue to learn and grow as a person. This experience of caring for a baby is truly humbling.”

4. Sofia Vergara

Did you know that the Modern Family star first got married at the age of 18 to her high school sweetheart? While the pair divorced in 1993, they both share a son, Manolo, whom Sofia had at the age of 19.

In an interview with Redbook in 2011, the Golden Globe and Emmy Awards nominee shared that being a young mother had forced her to grow up too quickly. “When I had Manolo, I was 19, and I had the energy for everything. It’s a big responsibility; you can’t go out much at night. Instead of buying a pair of shoes, you have to buy diapers. When you have a kid, you have to be more mature.”

While she didn’t have more kids since Manolo, now 29, she is happily married to actor Joe Manganiello, who she has been with since 2014.

5. Jennylyn Mercado

Jennylyn Mercado, a StarStruck alum just like Sarah Lahbati, is another young celebrity mom who has proved that having a child will not stop anyone from having a successful career.

The actress got pregnant with her son Alex Jazz at the age of 20, and has managed to make sustain her showbiz career. Though she and Patrick Garcia—Alex’s father—broke up a year after her pregnancy, she has always taken pride over being a single mom. In fact, she supports all single mothers who are getting flak for not being married.

In her Twitter account, she took a stand after one netizen posted a comment targeting women who have children out of wedlock.

“To all the single moms out there, never let comments like this get to you. Having a kid early doesn’t make you less of a woman. In fact, it’s the opposite. Being a single parent made us stronger than ever. Mahirap maging nanay at tatay ng ating (mga) anak pero kinakaya natin.”

“Kaya always hold your head up high. We are more powerful than they think we are.”

Say it again, Jen!
