After two years of anticipation, Nintendo finally showed off the first gameplay trailer for the long-awaited sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

At the tailend of Nintendo's E3 Direct presentation early Wednesday, the Tokyo-based gaming company unveiled a new trailer for BOTW 2 along with a confirmation that the hotly-anticipated sequel would come out on Nintendo Switch sometime in 2022.

Although details about the still-untitled sequel remain under wraps, the latest trailer showcases the beautiful open world of BOTW 2, including some of Link's new abilities.

The trailer begins with Link free falling and gliding through the skies, hinting that the upcoming sequel may include adventures above the sprawling envinronment of Hyrule.

The new trailer also reveals glimpses of Link's new powers, including what appears to be a flamethrower and a puddle of water that allows him to pass through solid objects. Aside from that, there are also sequences which featured some of Link's enemies from the first BOTW game such as the Bokoblins and the Stone Talus.

As previously mentioned, Nintendo only revealed a 2022 release window for the upcoming BOTW sequel. But if you can't wait to play another Zelda game, Nintendo will release the remastered version of the 2011 Nintendo Wii game The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword later this year.

Additionally, Nintendo is also releasing a Zelda-themed Game & Watch in celebration of the series' 35th anniversary. The retro handheld will have three games: 1987's The Legend of Zelda, 1988's Zelda II: The Adventure of Link, and the classic Game Boy title The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening. The retro-inspired Game & Watch System launches on Nov. 12 for $49.99.

First released in 2017 on Nintendo Switch, the original The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is considered by many as one of the best games of all time. The action-adventure game later received two DLCs: The Master Trials and The Champions' Ballad.
