'The Little Mermaid' posters are out, and netizens aren't happy with Flounder's look

Posters for the live-action adaption of the Disney animated classic The Little Mermaid just dropped, but netizens seem to have misgivings over that of Flounder.

In the 1989 animated movie, Flounder (not the flatfish species) is a bright yellow- and blue-colored tropical fish.

But in the live-action poster, Flounder—which has hyperrealistic Piscean features—is mostly silver in color, with tiger-like black stripes and yellow undertones.

The poster has garnered over 16,000 reactions, 10,000 of which are "Haha" and 4,600 are "Sad.

"This looks terrifying. Poor lil fishy," one user commented.

"Good God, what have they done? He can be brighter. Tropical fish are often colorful," another user wrote.

"Flounder’s supposed to be bright, yellow, and chubby with a baby face. It wasn’t meant to be realistic! His appearance matters!" another one said.

But there are still supportive comments, especially because of Flounder's voice actor Jacob Tremblay.

"But he's still cute and the kid who is doing the voice is so talented. I know he's going to do great," one user said.

"He's fine. Just could've stayed blue and yellow," said another.

While the CGI render "could've been a little better," another commenter said they're still excited for the movie.

The Little Mermaid, based on the fairy tale written by Hans Christian Andersen, centers on mermaid princess Ariel, who makes a Faustian bargain with the sea witch Ursula to become human and win the love of a prince named Eric.

She is joined by her loyal friends from the deep: tropical fish Flounder, crab Sebastian, and diving bird Scuttle.

The cast includes Halle Bailey as Ariel, Melissa McCarthy as Ursula, Javier Bardem as King Triton, Jonah Hauer-King as Prince Eric, Daveed Diggs as Sebastian, Jacob Tremblay as Flounder, and Awkwafina as Scuttle.

The Little Mermaid is set to hit cinemas on May 26. See the rest of the posters in the gallery below.
