Horror icon Valak is creeping back into the big screen for more scares and thrills as the release date for The Nun 2 has been announced.

Warner Bros. Discovery has set the release date for the sequel of 2018's supernatural horror film The Nun to Sept. 8 next year, making its terrifying villain Valak kick off the Halloween season.

The film will serve as the ninth installment in The Conjuring Universe, a series of horror films inspired from the real-life cases of the late paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren.

Valak first appeared as the true antagonist in The Conjuring 2. Due to her appearance as a demonic nun, she quickly became popular among fans of the franchise and received her own spinoff.

While The Nun 2 still has a long way to go, production for the film had already begun. In late April, franchise creator James Wan posted several pictures featuring Valak and wrote in the caption that the film is moving forward in its production.

The synopsis of the film reads: "1956 – France. A priest is murdered. An evil is spreading. The sequel to the worldwide smash hit THE NUN follows SISTER IRENE as she once again comes face to face with the demonic force VALAK – THE DEMON NUN."

The Nun 2 will be directed by Michael Chaves, who is no stranger to The Conjuring Universe as he previously helmed two films in the franchiseThe Curse of La Llorona and The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It.

Taissa Farmiga and Bonnie Aarons will be returning to reprise their roles from the previous film.
