Now that summer is here, we miss the outdoors—and the concert scene, too

By Mariel Abanes Published Mar 31, 2021 3:18 pm

Day after day, the heat becomes more unbearable—a sign that summer, indeed, has come. But just like last year’s summer, we won’t be able to enjoy the season’s festivities because—you guessed it—we’re back to square one.

The enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) has been put in place once again, leaving us with no choice but to stay still and lock ourselves inside our homes for days to come.

One of the outdoor things that we greatly miss right now is going to those annual summer concerts. You know, where fellow music lovers gather together and rock out and party from dusk ‘til dawn, possibly with a drink in hand, singing along to the artist playing onstage. Nostalgia consumes us these days, and for now, we can only reminisce and head straight to YouTube to play back those good ol’ youthful days that made us sing and feel alive.

Join us, as we take a walk down memory lane and remember those summers when we’re dancing to live music in these iconic local events.

Wanderland

The event has become the go-to music festival for the hip and trendy. Wanderland, with its sought-after lineup of hit local stars and international musicians, amps up the hype with fun pop ups that are a big hit for millennials. Enjoy several booths and taking OOTDs in the afternoon, take a break with great festival munchies before it gets dark, and finally let loose ‘til the wee hours with your friends—it’s how Wanderland-goers roll.

Malasimbo Music & Arts Festival

The magic of Malasimbo lies in its intention of bringing us closer to nature as concert attendees savor the smooth, groovy sound and unique ambiance of a summer concert within the forest. Traditionally held at Mt. Malasimbo in Puerto Galera, it celebrates music and the arts with a premium lineup of artists from all over the world. They also revolutionized the concert experience, introducing the silent disco that’s been a hit since it launched in 2015.

Pulp Summer Slam

Southeast Asia's longest-running outdoor Metal festival has been a constant fave since 2001. Rock and metal music acts from the country as well as abroad grace its stage, with around 30,000 audience in attendance. During this time, a sea of mostly black-clad festival-goers celebrate the power of rock ‘n roll—complete with all the screaming and head-banging.

CHROMA Music Festival

CHROMA is all about hue (pun intended!). Expect to leave the concert grounds with splashes of colors all over, hyped with the immense energy and heart thumping EDM experience that’s one for the books!

La Union Surfing Break

No summer is complete without that unforgettable trip to Elyu—especially during Surfing Break season! The sun, surf, and anthems of the season attract hundreds of tourists up north to celebrate with the heat- and music-loving crowd. The best part? We’re. At. The. Beach!
