Disney Plus has released the first trailer and key art for Dug Days, a spinoff series starring the delightful canine companion from the 2009 Pixar film Up.

Along with the trailer, a new poster teasing Dug's "biggest series of adventures all in his own backyard" was released just in time for International Dog Day on Thursday (August 26).

The series features memorable characters from the Academy-award winning animated film produced by Pixar Animation Studios and released by Walt Disney Pictures in 2009, including elderly widower Carl Fredricksen, boy scout Russell, and of course, Squirrel starring alongside the very lovable good boy.

The trailer sees Dug the golden retriever settling into his new life as Carl's pet, struggling to adapt to his new master's rules. We also see Russell in action again, enjoying Dug's attempts at chasing down one of the squirrels that distracts him so easily.

Dug Days is comprised of five new shorts, written and directed by Up writer and co-director Bob Peterson, with Pixar veteran Kim Collins producing. Peterson also serves as the voice of Dug in both the film and the new shorts.

"Dug is pure of heart—he's a good soul. I think people enjoy that part of Dug," Peterson said in a press release. "Plus, people love their dogs. We've gone to great lengths to include truth in dog behavior, so they see their own dogs in Dug."

Dug Days is one of several spinoff series Pixar has produced for Disney Plus, starting with Monsters at Work, which premiered in July. The studio has also announced an unnamed Cars spinoff, described as "Lightning McQueen and Mater on a road trip across the country," set to launch in the fall of 2022.

All five episodes of Dug Days will debut on Disney Plus on Sept. 1.
