Messenger will now tell you if someone screenshots your disappearing message

Getting receipts on Messenger might get harder now. There's a new feature in the app that will notify a user whenever someone takes a screenshot of their disappearing messages.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the new features for end-to-end encrypted chats on Facebook.

"New update for end-to-end encrypted Messenger chats so you get a notification if someone screenshots a disappearing message. We’re also adding GIFs, stickers, and reactions to encrypted chats too," he wrote.

Under secret chat, messages are end-to-end encrypted which means no one can read what's inside the conversation, even Facebook. In addition to the chat's secure nature, Messenger will now let you know if another user in the conversation took a screenshot like in Snapchat.

Meta also rolled out more functions to the secure chat mode, including sending GIFs, stickers, and reactions.

To start a secret conversation on Messenger, tap on the pencil icon in the upper right corner. Toggle the padlock icon to create an end-to-end encrypted message then select who you want to send a message to.

If you want the message to disappear after a certain amount of time, tap on the clock icon in the text box.
