From the largest human Christmas tree made of thousands of students, to the most complicated way possible to switch on lights, here are some festive Christmas-themed titles that broke world records.
Largest human Christmas tree
The largest human Christmas tree consists of 4,030 participants and was made by Mission Chengannur and Sobhana George in Chengannur, India on Dec. 19, 2015. The Christmas tree was mostly made up school children from the village of Chengannur.
Longest chain of sleds
The Wildkogel Arena Neukirchen ski resort in Austria provided the perfect backdrop for a successful Guinness World Records attempt for Longest chain of sleds which was achieved on Jan. 22, 2017.
The 750-meter long single-file chain was composed of an impressive 508 sleds. The chain of sleds travelled down a slope of 600 meters.
Most lights on an artificial Christmas tree
Australian local David Richards set a tree light display world record in Canberra in 2015 for the Most lights on an artificial Christmas tree.
Known locally as “Christmas Lights Man,” Richards orchestrated 518,838 individual lights to earn himself a spot in the record books. The Christmas tree was decorated with baubles, flashing presents and is topped by a 5-foot-tall star containing 12,000 bulbs.
However, this record was later taken back by the previous record holder, Universal Studios Japan in Osaka, on Oct. 28, 2019 with a total of 591,840 lights. According to Guinness World Records, Universal Studios Japan has been continuing to break its own record every year for the most lights on an artificial Christmas tree since 2011.
Fastest time to eat 3 mince pies
Professional speed eater Leah Shutkever (UK) holds the record for the Christmas-themed challenge of fastest time to eat three mince pies, which are traditionally served during the Christmas season in Britain and New England. The competitive eater and multiple Guinness World Records title holder downed three pies in just 52.21 seconds in London on Sept. 25, 2019.
