'Spider-Man: Remastered' has a ‘new’ Peter Parker

If you’ve played Marvel’s Spider-Man in 2018, then you should probably remember how the web crawler looked like when he’s not slinging around New York City, right? Well apparently, that Peter will not be returning when Insomniac’s remastered edition launches later this year.

In a recent PlayStation blog post, Insomniac said that the new edition of Marvel’s Spider-Man will feature a series of improvements including graphical updates, three new suits and, believe it or not, a new face for Peter Parker.

Insomniac Games community director James Stevenson explained that they recast the actor behind the original face of Peter in order to get a better fit to Yuri Lowenthal’s facial capture. If you still haven’t noticed, the new face of Peter has an uncanny resemblance to that of Tom Holland’s that appeared in several Marvel Cinematic Universe films.

“In order to bring the best performances to players with our next-generation Marvel’s Spider-Man games, we have recast the face of Peter Parker,” Stevenson wrote. “We loved working with John Bubniak on the original game; however, to get a better match to Peter Parker/Spider-Man actor Yuri Lowenthal’s facial capture, we have cast Ben Jordan to be the face model for Peter Parker on the PS5 console. He looks incredible in-game, and Yuri’s moving performances take on a new life.”

Here's the side-by-side comparison between the old and new Peter:

Apart from Peter’s new face, Insomniac also provided new details on the remastered edition including higher frame rate via performance mode that will improve the new game to 60 frames per second. The upcoming PS5 game also features DualSense’s haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, spatial 3D audio, near-instant loading and Andrew Garfield’s suit in The Amazing Spider-Man.

Marvel’s Spider-Man: Remastered will be available as part of the upcoming Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Edition on November 12.
