‘Ghostbusters: Afterlife’ trailer promises nostalgia-fueled adventure

It’s been a while since we've heard news on the release of Jason Reitman’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife, which takes place 30 years after the events of Ghostbusters II.

In case you missed it, the film’s second official trailer released last week gives a better look at stars Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard and McKenna Grace in action as Callie, Trevor and Phoebe Spengler, the daughter and grandchildren of Harold Ramis’ original Ghostbusters character Egon Spengler along with Paul Rudd, who plays teacher Mr. Grooberson.

In the film, the family moves to a sleepy rural town where they learn about their grandfather’s legacy and that he used to catch ghosts for a living.

Stranger Things’ Wolfhard’s character Trevor is shown to be something of a mechanic, as he unearths the Ecto-1 and is able to get it running again. His sister Phoebe played by Grace is more of a nerdy outsider, and discovers the hiding spot of Egon’s equipment, shown to at least be a ghost trap and the PKE meter.

The latest installment promises a nostalgia-fueled adventure, with some familiar faces, including Annie Potts who makes a quick appearance as Janine, the original team’s former secretary. Directed by Jason Reitman from a script he wrote with Gil Kenan, the film reportedly will see original stars Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, and Sigourney Weaver returning.

Based on the latest trailer, it seems that the plot is connected with occultist Ivo Shandor, who Ghostbusters fans might remember as the architect who designed the Manhattan skyrise that acted as a portal for the interdimensional being known as Gozer the Destructor in the classic Ghostbusters film.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife will be released theaters worldwide starting November 11, 2021.
