Lee Dong-hwi, who’s popular for his role as Ryu Dong-ryong in the youth nostalgia series Reply 1988, has been spotted in the Philippines for “work.”

Dong-hwi gained the attention of Pinoy K-drama fans after he posted photos of himself at the Greenbelt Walkway on March 23. “#DayOff,” he wrote in Korean, adding a sparkle emoji. His post drew over 55,000 likes, as of this writing.

One netizen wondered, “Is that in greenbelt omg!!”

“Are you in the Philippines,” another netizen wrote.

“Welcome to the Philippines,” said another Instagram user.

Dong-hwi raised speculations when he shared a set of photos of him posing at the IL Corso Lifemall in Cebu City. The actor was seen wearing a dark green polo shirt, comfy sweatpants, and sunglasses.

“Are you in the Philippines? OMG make sure to always bring water because the weather is sooooo hot. Stay safe,” a fan wrote in the comments.

Dong-hwi eventually confirmed that he visited the Philippines in an Instagram post on March 28. He was seen strolling around Rockwell in Makati and Bonifacio Global City in Taguig.

While it’s unknown what kind of “work” Dong-hwi did in the Philippines, a Reply 1988 local fan page said he’s currently filming for his upcoming K-drama Casino in the country.

In January 2022, Dong-hwi was cast in Casino alongside Squid Game stars Heo Sung-tae and Kim Joo-ryung. The K-drama is set to be broadcasted via the streaming platform Disney+.
