Sharon Cuneta on the passing of ex-fiance Charlie Cojuangco: ‘Thank you for taking care of me’
Sharon Cuneta penned a heartfelt tribute to her former fiancé, Tarlac Rep. Carlos “Charlie” Cojuangco, who died on Feb. 22.
In an Instagram post on Feb. 23, Cuneta expressed her grief over the passing of Cojuangco, the youngest son of the late tycoon Eduardo “Danding” Cojuangco Jr.
“I had never lost someone I was extremely close to and who was a big part of my life before, much less an ex-fiancé, until yesterday. So sudden. So unexpected. Too young,” the Megastar wrote.
Cuneta said she learned the news from her husband, vice presidential candidate Senator Kiko Pangilinan, who comforted her at the time.
“I thank God my dear husband understood and comforted me as my knees went weak and I suddenly became too quiet in my state of shock,” she said.
It was in late October 2021 when Cojuangco was reportedly rushed to a hospital after suffering an aneurysm while in a race in Clark International Speedway in Pampanga.
Cuneta thanked Cojuangco for taking care of her and for the happy times when they were together as “former partners-in-food” and a great “partner in firing guns.”
“Thank you for making me fall in love with Pontevedra (Negros Occidental), beautiful (Hacienda) Balbina, Manang Inyi and the other girls who took such goos care of my whenever I was there,” she said.
She also said she is grateful for the family she has gained because of Cojuangco—including his parents Danding and Gretchen.
“Thank you for all the memories and good times, for taking care of me. Though we didn’t make it together, I was so happy when you found your Rio and my heart broke for you when you lost her,” wrote Cuneta.
Cojuangco was married to actress and TV host Rio Diaz, who succumbed to cancer in 2004. Together they have two children—Claudia and Jaime.
“I found my Kiko and my own happiness, too. I was happy for you when you remarried, and shocked when just a few weeks later, “THAT” happened (I have no business giving details here), and I feel for your new wife,” she said.
Cojuangco’s accident came only a few weeks after he and Christina Jocson tied the knot in a church wedding in early October. They first wed in a civil ceremony on April 7, 2021.
“Rest now, Carlos. No more pain, stress, init-ulo, problems. I know are reunited with Rio in heaven and i will pray for your Claudia and Jaime as they face the future without you both,” Cuneta said.
She continued: “Be happy in God’s loving arms. Our deepest condolences to the whole Cojuangco family, especially Mrs. Charlie Cojuangco. May God give you the strength you will need as you go through these loneliest of times.”
