The COVID-19 pandemic has indeed changed the way things are being done—beauty pageants, which used to bring in a mob from all over the world in one arena, included.

Among these pageants adapting to the new normal is the upcoming Miss Universe Philippines (MUP) 2020. The tournament, which will choose the Miss U rep eventually, will be held at the Baguio Country Club—where, get this, the candidates will do their own hair and makeup!

This isn't a gimmick—MUP has come up with the decision to significantly reduce their risk of any infection. The ladies will will put on their glitz and glam in their own rooms, with the help of hair and makeup pros who will guide them through the process virtually.

Besides this, MUP has also obligated the contestants to wear PPEs off the stage, practice social distancing, and follow proper hygiene throughout the entire production.

The organization said in a press release that for the grand coronation day, there will be "an on-site inspection prior to filming to ensure adequate and well-ventilated space for social distancing, sanitary facilities in all entrances and exits, and an isolation area for those who show symptoms of COVID-19.”

No live audience will be present during the competition, but the preliminary interview episode, national costume, swimsuit, and evening gown episode, and grand finale episode will all be streamed via Ring Light on Empire.ph for a fee of P299 or $6.

As part of the FDCP-DOH Health and Safety Protocols for the Conduct of Film and Audiovisual Production Shoots to Mitigate COVID-19 released earlier, all members of the prod team are required to get tested for coronavirus regularly, wear PPE, and work with limited capacity.
